Trifolium repens L.

Flora Europaea

the original Linnean specimen - as a curiosity, remark that the type was collected in Virginia, USA where it was certainly present as a result of the European settling, some 150 years before

A very common mesic ruderal along with Lolium perenne in heavily walked pastures and grasslands.

Viscri, Brasov county, August 2010.

Near Capra peak, Fagaras Mountains, 2200m asl, Arges county. The photos below show that this ruderal can attain through sheep flocks very high altitudes and should not be mistaken for the subalpine subspecies Trifolium repens ssp. ochranthum, ssp. orbelicum and ssp. alpinum which are quite different.
